BEEKEEPER & ALUMNI BOARD MEMBER OF THE BEE HEALING GUILD

Not only does Dr. Abby Campbell have a passion for health, but she also has a passion for honeybees. She is on the alumni board of directors for the BEe Healing Guild, a non-profit organization that teaches treatment-free methodology through classes and a scholarship program. Her mentor was world-renowned beekeeper and apitherapist, Lady Spirit Moon Cirelli. Dr. Campbell is also a member of the Gaston County Beekeepers Association and the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association.

Because of Dr. Campbell's unique love for humanity, she became acquainted with honeybees due to the strange phenomenon that began to occur in 2006 called the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). This phenomenon occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappear and leave behind a queen, plenty of food, and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees. Honeybees have been disappearing at a rate of 50 percent around the world each year since 2006. This is alarming because honeybees are the largest pollinators of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Without their survival, the devastation and demise of animals and humans will surely occur.

"If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live."

- ALBERT EINSTEIN

While CCD may seem like a phenomenon to many in the science community, there are many more that have attributed this anomaly to glyphosate and neonicotinoids (i.e., Roundup®), chemicals that are used to destroy weeds and create genetically modified crops. Both glyphosate and neonicotinoids effect the endocrince system of honeybees, thereby affecting the queen's laying abilities. These chemicals also affect the worker bees' memory system as they forget how to return to their hive after harvesting. Studies have also shown that over 250 different chemicals have been found in honeycombs. This is a major concern as it proposes exponential damage.

It is Dr. Campbell's goal to educate the world about CCD and honeybee health. She will be offering online courses that will be available in 2020 with the Guild as well as the School of Natural Health.
